These are some of the tools, applications and service providors that we use for our business. We couldn’t do without most of these tools and the good news is that many of them are free.

WordPress – We use WordPress for all of our websites. WordPress is a powerful, customisable blogging platform with a plethora of plugins available. Oh and it is free! Our favourite plugins are:

- Akismet (removes spam comments)

HostGator – We LOVE HostGator! HostGator offers hosting from as little as US$4.95 a month. The set up and activation of your hosting account is really fast and we have had nothing but great service which is a real change from many hosts
Hosting Reborn – Hosting Reborn is a UK hosting company with a unique pay-as-you-go payment structure. Basically you prepay to use the service and they deduct from your balance over time. A small business with a great ethos.
Keywords & Website Analysis
Google Analytics – Google’s free tool, Google Analytics is a free website monitoring tool that provides a wealth of data you can use to improve your website’s performance. Find out why you gotta have a website monitoring tool.
Google Free Keyword Tool – Another great free tool that gives you information about keyword search volumes and suggestions for variations of your chosen keyword. For more info read: Google’s free keyword tool for keyword research.
Market Samurai – Market Samurai is the best keyword tool on the market, hands down. The tool draws data from Google’s Free Keyword Tool but also gives you a huge amount of additional and rather valuable information. We particularly love that it allows you to analyse the Top 10 websites that are ranking in search engines for your chosen keyword, and colour coding that helps you understand whether or not your website can compete.
Payments & Affiliate Programs
E-Junkie – We use E-Junkie to manage distribution of digital products, thank you letters and our affiliate program. It is only US$5 per month with all the features we currently need, probably the cheapest possible option for these services.
PayPal – Coupled with E-Junkie, we use PayPal to take payments and pay affiliates. For any start up this is a cheap option for the sale and distribution of digital products.
Email Marketing & eNewsletter Production
Mailchimp -We can’t say enough good things about Mailchimp! Firstly if your database is under 1000 it is free, and for most small business owners and start ups, the idea of one less overhead is luscious! Especially when the product is so damn great! Basically you can use Mailchimp to collect your new subscriptions, manage your subscribers, send html or plain text emails, create auto responders, set up RSS sends of your blogs and manage distribution of E-Books.
Tweet Adder – Tweet Adder is a great Twitter tool that aids with managing your following, followers and tweets and direct messages en mass. It has a handy search feature and a great tweet poster for your regular content marketing. This product has been essential in the growth, reach and influence of our Twitter accounts. This is a great tool to compliment your manual posts and interaction, and we use it daily.
Tweet Deck – A free desktop social media tool we use to manage multiple twitter accounts. Tweet Deck gives you a user friendly console that you can use to post a single message to your Facebook, Twitter, MySpace & Linked In accounts.
