The sad truth
I heard a disturbing statistic the other day. Somewhere between 50 -70% of Twitter accounts end up unused.
Even if 70% is a vast exaggeration and the figure is more conservative at 50%, it is still huge when you consider how powerful Twitter can be for your business.
Every once in a while I get an email or a message from a client saying “I finally figured it out – Twitter is awesome for my business!” This makes me very happy as Twitter is a very powerful tool for sharing and connecting with your community and expanding your network.
So, what is the secret?
Why are new accounts ditched so frequently before their owners understand Twitter’s full potential?
Why is Facebook so much easier to get?
Getting the culture
Personally I believe that Facebook is easier to understand because most people start with a personal profile and connect with friends, colleagues and family – then they use it for business. They already understand the culture before they try to add business into the mix.
With Twitter your entry may not be quite so welcoming. You start an account, follow people that you probably don’t know, post awkwardly a few times about your business and nothing happens because you don’t understand the culture.
After a few attempts at this, if there are no bites, many people throw up their hands and give up which is a huge shame, because:
Twitter can help you share your content like crazy and connect with awesome like-minded people and potential customers all over the world.
If that sounds interesting and you have either given up – or are ready to start from scratch we are here to announce the relaunch of Twitter for Business.
Twitter for Business is a Grassroots eBook jam packed full of step-by-step instructions that will help you understand how to use Twitter to market your business. We are thrilled to relaunch our popular book.
