This article was inspired by an AmCham lunch where the General Manager of Google presented about future internet trends, including that within a few years, more people will access the internet via mobile phones than computers.
That got me thinking, is our website ready and waiting to be seen via mobile phones? Is yours?
The predictions presented by Karim Temsamani, General Manager of Australia and New Zealand for Google (who will soon relocate to the US) include that the mobile internet will explode to have ten times the use of the internet from desktop computers. And, that people will expect to have the same user experience, regardless of how they are accessing the internet.
How does your website look when viewed on a mobile phone?
My take on this prediction is to work out what you need to do now to make your website look as lovely when viewed on a mobile as it does from a desktop or laptop computer.
There are two types of mobile phone browsers that you need to consider.
One is the iPhone and similar phones that have a full internet browser, and the other is the modified browser that is used on other mobile phones that can access the internet.
If anyone can explain this better than I have – feel free to leave a comment below!
We use a WordPress mobile phone plugin on this website. The image on the right shows how our blog page looks when viewed on an iPhone.
Spend a few minutes googl-ing yourself on a mobile or two to see if your website is ready for the future.
