Almost every day a busy business owner comes to me with a worried look and says “I don’t have a Twitter account and I believe I may be missing out but, the prospect of learning another application pains my brain”.
If this sounds familiar you are in luck, I am going to make it very easy for you to get more value from Twitter! Also I am in a delicious mood a few lucky readers will get some PERSONAL help. So read on for the goodies!
Firstly the context for Twitter: Twitter in terms of functionality is similar to the status update in Facebook. Some of the main benefits of Twitter updates over Facebook updates are that you can follow and interact with ANYONE in the world (think potential customers) on Twitter and that you can search for what people are saying in real time on any number of topics.
So if you are a pizza parlour you can search for people in your area that mentioned “food” or “hunger” or “pizza” in the last hour and connect with them. Or if you are a graphic designer you can look for people who say they need a graphic designer and respond to them directly.
Think about what people would say that would indicate they want or need your products and services
The application itself is easy to use but often if people they don’t see results immediately they stop using it and give up learning how to interact.
So here is the secret…Twitter is networking. Therefore you need to connect with as many people as you can and be remembered. You need to start a conversation. This can be a little weird at first because you can’t see their face, but once you get in the rhythm people are extremely friendly and keen to share so stick with it.
Here are the goodies I promised to help you use Twitter like a pro:
